Greetings to all you, my wonderful subscribers.
I’ve got a couple things to share today that might be of interest to you. First I’m excited to announce that I’ve just released a new signature hammer with Saign Charlestein. Previously we had done the Huang Raising Hammer. I was very pleased with the quality of those hammers and how it’s been working with Saign. I guess he was happy too since we’ve now gone and developed the new Huang Embossing Hammers!

I designed these specifically for the technique I call hammer chasing. This is a term I just made up so if you don’t know what it means that is why! Basically it’s when I go directly at the vessels with hammers to develop some major form changes and simple designs. These can remain as they are, such as in my Lustrous Contours series of vessels, or they get further developed with traditional chasing. Anyway, if you are interested in learning more I’ve got a new page up describing the hammers and what they do, which you can find here.
My second bit of news is related. The past couple weeks my girlfriend was here (it’s a long distance relationship so we are usually far apart) and she strongly suggested I try doing a video of me using these hammers. Since she was around to shoot the video, and has a better camera to do so, I agreed. The downside is that I’m not really set up to do any major video editing. Basically I can just trim frames off one end or the other. So in light of this we approached this as a series of short videos. Should I ever get into this more I may try and go back to edit them all together into one.
Rather than just focusing on the new Huang Embossing Hammer I decided to document and discuss the process of doing a full course of hammer chasing on a vessel starting with the layout of the lines, going through all the hammer work, and finishing with a discussion of where I could take the piece next. I don’t actually have these videos on my website at the moment. Instead I’ve got them posted on my new Odysee Channel if you care to check them out. There are 11 videos in this series. There is also one of me doing some normal chasing work with no commentary done as more of a test. Here is a link straight to the first video of the series and if you want to skip right to where the new hammers are introduced you can go here to the 6th video.
Finally, if you are interested in purchasing this new hammer you would do so through Saign Charlestein. As a reminder he has given me a discount code to offer to all visitors to my website that will get you 10% off any tools on his site. That discount code is DH10. I have a link to his site in the new page about these hammers, but here it is as well.
As always, I thank you all for the interest you’ve shared in what I do!
best regards,
David
