Alden Dow Museum show (and maybe ArtPrize 2014)
My primary project for the next few months is to prepare for an exhibition that will be running from April 19 through June 21, 2014 at the Alden Dow Museum of Science and Art, often also known as the Midland Center for the Arts, in Midland, MI. This will be a solo show of my work titled "Luminous: The Metal Vessels of David Huang". What's extra exciting is that it will be augmented with a related show of other metalwork which will be called "Metalsmithing Today: The Vessel". My goal is to make my exhibition a stellar show, because I'm pretty sure the invitational show will be. When I find out who the other participating metalsmiths are I'll post them here too. From what I know so far regarding those invited this should be THE metalsmithing event of the year for vessels!
Anyway, I'm planning to treat this album more like a regular blog, posting little bits and thoughts on a steady basis as I create the work for this show. It likely won't be step by step progression photos of each piece, though I expect there will be a bit of that. I'm hoping instead that it will show the overall process and development of body of work for a major exhibition.
Oh, yes, also if things go as planned I'll be doing a major entry into ArtPrize in 2014 with a grouping of work pulled from this collection and perhaps added to.
If this interests you then enjoy, and check back often to see how things progress between now (December 2, 2013) and the opening of the show.
